There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of conveniences aside from the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
